The Neighborhood
San Francisco plays host to millions of annual worldwide visitors with hundreds of recreational, cultural and tourist attractions. San Francisco's diverse neighborhoods, restaurants, shops, museums and art galleries contribute to what is arguably one of the nation's most unique visitor experiences.
Some of Downtown's more renowned destinations and attractions are detailed below: Union Square is a cable car or quick walk from NHT and is one of the foremost shopping districts in the world. Chinatown is a 24-block "city within a city" with much of its activity taking place along Grant Avenue, the oldest street in San Francisco. Upon entering through Chinatown's colorful "Dragon's Gate", visitors can easily explore on foot the city's many exotic shops, renowned restaurants, food markets, temples, and museums. North Beach/ Little Italy is concentrated into less than one square mile. North Beach celebrates San Francisco's Italian heritage in a number of cabarets, jazz clubs, galleries, inns, family style restaurants, and gelato parlors. A perfect destination for cappuccino and espresso, North Beach is transformed into one of the city's most eclectic playgrounds at night with live music and dancing. South of Union Square is Yerba Buena Gardens, adjacent to the Moscone Convention Center at Third Street, Yerba Buena Gardens is a 22-acre complex which houses the Sony Metreon, the Center for the Arts at Yerba Buena Gardens and the Rooftop, an area devoted to San Francisco's youth, which includes a garden, an ice-skating rink, a child development center, and an art technology center for kids.
And all of this is at your fingertips - a walk, a cable-car ride or a short cab ride away.
